Practice Philosophy

I believe in an integrative and individualized treatment. I find that therapy helps promote a deeper understanding of oneself which leads to a reduction in distress, an increase in ability to cope with future problems, and an increase in capacity for fulfillment.
Therapy can be used alone or in addition to medications. I find that medications are not always necessary, but can be very helpful in quieting the “background noise” and allowing you space to heal.

Treatment
I work with a wide range of problems including depression, anxiety, mood instability, relationship concerns, low self worth, life transitions, or even if you are just feeling “stuck.” I enjoy working with people who are interested in promoting their personal growth.
As a psychiatrist experienced in both medication management and therapy, I can evaluate and treat you with either modality, or both, making more efficient use of your time.
I personally answer all my own phone calls, providing you with personalized, high quality care.

Education and Training
I am board certified in psychiatry. I received my medical degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. This means I completed four years of medical school after having already completed an undergraduate degree.
After medical school, all doctors complete an intensive training program of varying lengths called residency. For psychiatrists, this is an additional four years and constitutes over 16,000 hours of clinical work. In addition to direct patient care, residency also includes additional study, presentations and exams. Residency training includes direct inpatient and outpatient care, and training in both psychotherapy and prescribing medication. I completed my psychiatry residency at Rush University in Chicago, Illinois where I was chief resident.
After residency I completed an additional two year training program through the Denver Psychoanalytic Institute in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This provided over 700 additional training hours. I continue to take classes through the Denver Psychoanalytic Institute.
I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
I am a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Psychotherapy Caucus member, a member of the Colorado Psychiatric Association, and the Denver Psychoanalytic Society. I am also a volunteer faculty member at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where I am a Senior Clinical Instructor.
